About this Program

The Bachelor of Applied Arts (B.A.A.) in teaching Spanish is offered through the Department of Education in conjunction with the Department of World Languages and Cultures. Students are fully immersed in Spanish through coursework, volunteering in the Duluth community, and studying abroad.

The Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP) offers a variety of content areas for specialization. Classes include a combination of specific content areas and teacher education coursework. Within the teacher education program, students have hands-on exposure to classrooms through volunteer experiences, observation, and student teaching.

This Bachelor of Applied Arts prepares students for MN licensure to teach Spanish in grades K-12. Students may also pursue a Spanish Studies B.A. with satisfactory completion of degree requirements for both majors.

Career Possibilities

Entry level positions include elementary, middle or high school teacher, translator, interpreter.  Advanced degree positions include Dean of Students, Principal, School Counselor, Superintendent.
