About This Program
Do you want to help organizations make better strategic decisions based on data rather than opinion? Does analyzing data to uncover insights excite you? Are you curious about why and how consumers interact with products, services, and the marketplace? If so, the Consumer Insights & Analytics (CIA) major may be a great fit for you.
This program equips you to transform consumer data—especially related to buying behaviors—into actionable business insights. You’ll gain experience presenting your findings as solutions to real-world business problems and have 24/7 access to LSBE’s state-of-the-art analytics lab featuring sophisticated software and industry datasets. Active members of the Analytics Club also participate in regional undergraduate competitions.
Program Highlights
- Use industry-leading software to manage, summarize, and analyze consumer and transaction data
- You receive certification exam preparation—and paid exam fees—for Tableau and Power BI, giving you a competitive edge for internships and jobs
- Gain experience presenting insights to executives, identifying trends, and communicating current, actionable recommendations with confidence
- Our program director brings over 30 years of experience in retail, broadcast television, and magazine publishing; along with leading nonprofit boards and advising local startups on marketing and business strategies. He teaches all CIA courses, coordinates the summer internship program, supports networking activities, and works with the program’s industry advisory council

Student Internships
LSBE offers an in-house internship program led by a dedicated director who oversees more than 200 internships annually. The director works with both you and employers to ensure valuable, real-world experiences.
Students regularly secure internships at top companies, including: 3M, Cintas, Google, Hormel, Fastenal, Land O’Lakes, Minnesota Vikings, Target, UnitedHealth Group, Sherwin-Williams, Taylor Corporation, and SPS Commerce—as well as school-year and remote internships in the Duluth area.
