About This Program
Are you creative and visual, but also strategic? Would you like to design compelling visuals that solve real-world business problems? Do you want to help companies promote their products and services more effectively? If so, the Marketing & Graphic Design (MGD) major may be a great fit for you.
This unique interdisciplinary program combines two high-demand skill sets—marketing and graphic design—into one major. You hone you design skills while developing a strong foundation in marketing strategy and business practices.
Program Highlights
- A collaborative degree offered by the Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) and the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
- One of the first programs of its kind in the U.S.—and still among only a handful nationally
- Gain hands-on experience with current, industry-standard design tools and software
- Learn to solve visual communication problems using conceptual thinking, typography, imagery, and combinations of type and image
- Collaborate with creative teams to research, design, and implement marketing strategies across multiple media platforms
Research & Experiential Learning
- Active involvement in the MGD Club, which hosts professional portfolio reviews, industry guest speakers, and creative events
- Cross-club collaboration, with MGD serving as a design resource for other LSBE student organizations
- Networking with professionals during LSBE Company Days
- Skill development through the Passport Program, which emphasizes soft skills and professional readiness
- Access to additional business-related student clubs open to all majors
Student Internships
LSBE offers a dedicated, in-house internship program managed by a full-time director, who oversees 200+ internships annually and works closely with you and employers to ensure a valuable learning experience.
MGD majors have interned at companies like 3M, Cintas, Google, Hormel, Fastenal, Land O’Lakes, Target, Minnesota Vikings, Sherwin-Williams, and more—along with local and remote opportunities during the academic year.
